Theoretical Linguistics in the light of Sri Aurobindo - An Introductory Course
Every Monday from September 15th till December 15th
4:00 pm to 5:15 pm

This course is designed for major studies of the fundamentals of Linguistics in Indian and Western terms, which may lead us eventually to a discovery of a future science of language, about which Sri Aurobindo spoke in his analysis of the Vedic language. To clearly see the difference in approaches to the concepts of meaning and sound in the Western and Indian Philosophical and Linguistic traditions may help a great deal.
Here we will speak also about the influence of Sanskrit on Western Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, etc., which took place at the end of 18th - beginning of 19th century in Europe. This course can be of use also for all those who are working on alternative educational models based on integral knowledge.
Topics which we will be dealing with in this course:
1) The Theories of Language from the Vedic to Post Vedic traditions (Pratishakhyas, Yaska and Panini);
2) The Theory of Sphota by Patanjali, Bhartrihari and Abhinavagupta;
3) The Theory of Language according to the Ancient Greek Philosophy by Socrates, Plato, Aristotle;
