Auroville participates in Live Earth - 07/07/07

Live Earth is an international event planned for 07/07/07 that will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis (see below in case you missed it).
Inspired by the concept to bring awareness to the climate crisis that is the vision behind Live Earth, the feeling that Wim would have organised something if he was here and just feeling ready to meet each other again in a happy way, a few of us gravitated together to see what we might do in Auroville on this day.

This is our thinking so far...

We are going to organize the following events at our Visitor's Center on Saturday 7/7/07. Starting 6pm the program will include:

* Organic fusion vegetarian buffet dinner using mainly locally grown organic food in order to promote the concept of food miles and organic farming.

* Interactive presentations from individuals and groups about projects and personal initiatives that are related to minimizing global warning and creating awareness.

* Dance together listening to world music to collectively remind us of our connection to the people of the world and the earth which sustains us.

We are looking into the technology to enable us to broadcast the concerts from around the world on a wide screen to bring us closer to this global wave that is estimated to link approx 2 billion people together.

This event is 2 weeks away and we are just starting out in preparing(!) If you would like to participate to help bring this together or especially if you would like to share something about your projects or personal initiatives to reduce carbon emissions that could be part of the presentations (in any creative way), then please contact any one of the organisers immediately!

See you on the 7th July!

With love,
Tlaloc, Ricardo, Marc T, Kathy, Thulsi, Nandita

Live earth is an international event that will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis.

Live Earth is a 24-hour, 7-continent series of 9 concerts taking place on 7/7/07 that will bring together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis. Live Earth will reach this worldwide audience through an unprecedented global media architecture covering all media platforms - TV, radio, Internet and wireless channels. Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection, The Climate Group and other international organizations to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve global warming. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is the Chair of the Alliance and Partner of Live Earth. Live Earth was founded by Kevin Wall, the Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8, an event that brought together one of the largest audiences in history to combat poverty. Wall formed a partnership with Al Gore and the Alliance for Climate Protection to ensure that Live Earth inspires behavioral changes long after 7/7/07. Live Earth will stage concerts at Giants Stadium in New York; Wembley Stadium in London; Aussie Stadium in Sydney; Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro; Maropeng at the Cradle of Humankind in Johannesburg; Makuhari Messe in Tokyo; the Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai; HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg; and Inonu Stadium in Istanbul. Live Earth concerts will be broadcast to a live worldwide audience by MSN at www.LiveEarth.MSN.com. With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices. Live Earth is a project of the SOS campaign, which is using a powerful multimedia platform - films, television, radio, Internet, books, wireless and others - to move people to combat the climate crisis.
