Short Description
 
Vedic Studies in the light of Sri Aurobindo is a course which evolved over several years. It presents major concepts of the Vedic Knowledge in the light of Sri Aurobindo's interpretation. This is an introductory part. It consists of five lectures:
  • The Vedic Vision: foundations and presumptions. Metaphysical and sociological shift of epistemological paradigm
  • The Linguistic shift of epistemological paradigm (continuation of the first lecture)
  • Sri Aurobindos Evolutionary Theory and integral structure in the Rig Veda
  • A priori of the Vedic Knowledge and the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo
  • A reconstruction of the Vedic Knowledge in the light of Sri Aurobindo 
It is to be concluded with the research papers by the students.
    The second part of this course (from Oct3 2011) is a detailed study of the Vedic imagery and symbolism viewed in the light of Sri Aurobindo's interpretation. It will be given after a completion of the first one in the next six weeks course: The Studies of the Rig Veda, The Myths of Creation. It deals with the detailed study of the major imageries of the Vedic Mythology: Night and Dawn, Heaven and Earth, Hiranya Garbha and Myths of Creation: Nasadiya Sukta and Purusha Sukta, Hymns to Vishvakarman, and some other texts selected from Shatapatha Brahmana, Taittiriya Aranyaka and Upanishad, Aitareya Brahmana and Upanishad etc.
    • The Symbolism of the Vedic Imagery of Night. The Origin of Night
    • The Symbol of Dawn
    • The Myth of Angirasa Rishis: The Secret of the Veda
    • The Myths of Creation: N?sad?ya-s?kta, Heaven and Earth and Hiranya Garbha
    • The Sacrifice of the Purusha
    It is to be concluded with the research papers by the students.

    The third part (from Nov20 2011) will be dedicated to the studies of the hymns to Aditi and Adityas:  The Manifestation of the Infinite Consciousness. Hymns to Aditi and Adityas in the Rig Veda. This is the course of systematic studies of the Rig Veda and especially Hymns to the Divine Mother Aditi and her sons, named Adityas: Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, Bhaga, Daksha, Amsha and Surya or Savitar. Around 20 hymns shall be studied in depth. We shall also overview and determine the paradigms of Vedic Knowledge, the planes of Being and Consciousness and the role of the Vedic Sacrifice.
    We are planning also to conduct more courses of the Vedic Studies in the light of Sri Aurobindo:
    • The Manifestation of the Supramental Knowledge and Power. Hymns to Surya-Savitri in the Veda
    • The Evolutionary Growth of the Divine Will in Manifestation. 28 Hymns to Agni in the 5th Mandala of the Rig Veda
    • The Spiritual Growth of Consciousness and Being. Hymns to Mitra and Varuna in the Rig Veda
    • The Transformative Action of the Divine Mind. Selected Hymns to Indra and Maruts in the Rig Veda
    • The Awakening of the Divine Consciousness. Hymns to Usha in the Rig Veda (including A?vins)
    • Selected Hymns to the All-gods in the Rig Veda

     Vladimir Yatsenko, graduated from St.Petersburg University in 1992, MA in Sanskrit and General Linguistics, has been teaching ever since the Sanskrit Grammar and Literature.
